Heart for Jessica - MommySpike

It's time to use my power for good.

As some of you may know, my sons are active in band. Their middle school band director and her family are trying to raise funds for her niece, Jessica, who is waiting for a heart transplant. She collapsed while working as an entertainer at Disneyworld in Orlando and has spent months in and out of the hospital.

http://heartforjessica.org/

If you are in the Dallas area, there will be a fundraiser for Jessica at Poteet High School (3300 Poteet Drive, off of Galloway & Town East Blvd) in Mesquite, TX this Saturday, November 22th from 12 noon to 3 pm. There will be crafts booths, face-painting, BBQ, a raffle and other events. In addition, Carter Bloodcare will have its Bloodmobile out there, with donations going to Jessica, who relies on weekly transfusions.

Hope to see you there!

What happened to Yiffit and Furverts? - Cloudchaser Shaconage (shah-con-ah-jey)

Engelbart D. Mouse said:

Squeak!

I do not see a problem with this topic, although I think I should step in and clear a few things up.

First of all, yes, we have nothing to do with "yiff" on this site specifically, but I wouldn't deny it exists at all! Like Vizon said, to specifically talk about, well, specifics, that would certainly be off topic and removed with quite a bit of haste. However, the fact of the matter is that we licensed our ArtSpots code to them, and because of that they look a lot alike, and that's why people ask about it here sometimes. I will say that we do not run Yiffit, we only lent them our software engine.

I do not know the specifics, but Yiffit went down because of ISP/hosting issues and they had to change locations. The scuttle is that if they do come back, it will be under a different name with a few things changed. I am not sure if they will be using our code specifically anymore, at least the new stuff we're making. I do hope that fixes some confusion too. :)

Crap. Not what I was hoping to hear, but at least I know what happened. Thanx for your reply!

Single furry looking for a fellow artist partner. :) - Raptor_Red

I'm looking to find a partner in the art world. Somebody who I can trust and work with on artworks. If it eventually becomes more than just friends thats cool too :) Being an artist in this starving economy is really hard, especially for a sculptor because materials costs are 10 times that of drawing materials. I should know, I've dabbled in both 2D and 3D arts and my most expensive 2D material were my Prisma Color pencils. Pens are ridiculously priced but oh so wonderful to use. So in short I will post a few things about me and lets see what sticks :)

Name: Vince
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Alignment: non religious
Body Type: Average
Height: 5' 9"
Dragon Mane: Red
Eyes: Green
Location: Bend, Oregon

First off I have never been to a convention and I want to go to one really badly but I cant afford to even leave town I'm so broke right now. The economy really killed art sales for sculptors like myself. I'm going to try my hand at 2D art again to see if I can get any commissions. I used to go to renaissance fairs in California and I love them! It's so much fun to dress up and play the games and just soak up the energy of those festivals. If I can afford it I will try to make it to the Pirate Festival in Portland Next year.

Secondly I am a kind hearted fellow who loves nature and wildlife. I was raised on my families Arabian horse ranch for half my life till my parents divorced and then I lost everything including my Pinto Mare "Panda". I loved that horse more than anything and it nearly killed me to see her sold to somebody else.

When it comes to getting close I am not really good at that. I can be distant at times even when I am in the same room. I have ADD "Attention Deficit Disorder" which also means I cant focus on more than one thing at a time. I do try to improve on this, though its not easy. Also I love hugs! I don't kiss and I am Celibate and don't want human offspring. And to be perfectly honest I have never been in a relationship so I am kind of a blank slate which also means I am a little shy. I am quiet and if theres a party I would prefer to be on my own sketching or reading.

I don't drink alcohol. I don't take drugs "or vitamins". I don't smoke "allergic".

As for art partners I was thinking something like a 2D artist because we can deal with the hard economy. When sculpture is down 2D is up and when 2D is down Sculpture is up. Or thats how I perceive it. And we can also learn from each other and improve our art in different ways. Though if your a sculptor, mask maker, costumer as well that would be really cool too.

I have a tendency of forgetting to eat when I get into a sculpture. I sometimes end up sculpting till 3am at night. I am becoming a minimalist I think. I have found that with more possessions you have the less room you have to display your artwork LOL. That and being as the economy is I have been trying to sell stuff I don't need and so far its a slow process but it has helped a bit and brought out a new perspective on life in general.

I don't care for TV much, hence why I rarely watch it unless I want to watch a DVD like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Dark Crystal, and other great films. I am not a hard core gamer. I sold my Xbox a while back and am trying to sell my games. I have a PS2 but rarely turn the thing on. If I do play games they should have a nice story to them and good graphics. Not just be blood and guts. I don't even listen to the radio unless it wakes me up in alarm mode. I am more of a night owl cause I can stay awake for hours.

I love dinosaurs, dragons, wolves, horses, dolphins and just about every animal out there except for spiders. I have arachnophobia so if one touches me or gets on me I freak big time.

If you need more info on me just ask. :)

About flagging - Engelbart D. Mouse

Sudan Red said:

Frida said:

If you feel that a specific image was left up in error you are more than welcome to PM one of us and explain your stance and we will take it into consideration.

I am aware that flagging doesn't remove an image from public view. I've flagged a specific image quite a few times in the past year, so it really doesn't make any difference whether I PM you with my stance. :) You have made it clear that such images are acceptable by your action. I just won't waste that 30seconds in future.

Just a note about flagging I'd like to bring up: It works best as a community effort. Some people email helpdesk with suspect images, and while that is one avenue, we are currently trying to deal with a backlog there. Flagging is the quickest, easiest method to report an image for our moderators to view it. If it gets flagged a certain amount in a certain time period, it automatically gets removed from view.

I think that if it is being flagged for language, we should have that as an option in the pulldown, otherwise I think moderators are just looking at the image and judging the rating based on that. That's what I've done on the few times I've gone into view flags, so I admit I'm guilty of this too. A marker for "Description" would probably be best, as seeing that I'd know to go look at that specifically.

Ack, I forgot to mention that in my post! Yes, you are absolutely correct- Some states have declared raffles to be illegal. Most states, however, consider them legal under certain circumstances, or as long as certain rules are followed. For example, my state allows raffles as long as specific information is provided, i.e. what the prize (or prizes) is, when the raffle is over, and the date that the winner will be drawn and announced. It becomes illegal only if I do not follow through. XD (And I certainly do plan to follow through! ^^)

I'm sorry that they are illegal where you are. >_< IMHO, that totally bites! Because I really love raffles, I find them to be fun and exciting!

And, you will?! Yay, thank you so much!! ^__^

I'm really hoping not to be a buzz kill, but aren't cash-for-prizes raffles illegal? Granted, I found that out only -after- I did a raffle myself a while back, and it depends on where you live I believe and unfortunately where I am it is. XD I ask just out of my own curiosity, mind! I love raffles though so I'll probably buy a ticket or two later today. :)

However still… in just my opinion, something like that, could still be kept from public view and be discussed in private messages.
Also, I was not trying to be insulting in any way at all in my previous post, and if I was, for that, I am sorry, and I apologize and hope no harm.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but do those sites have anything to do with actual Yiff? If they do, please don’t post that kind of thing here, I’m asking as a concerned user of Art Spots. I would like to see the integrity of Art Spots is kept. This is an awesome site with very talented artists, and I’m sure other people don’t need to be reading about Yiff sites in the forums. In my opinion ArtSpots is among (if not the best) site for good, clean anthropomorphic art. All I am saying is that I have good righteous judgment, and I for one, don’t need to hear about sites like Yiffit and Furverts and I am sure others do not need to either. Again, if I am wrong, please correct me, and I will take back what I said about my assumption about the two sites (and the users wanting to know what happend to the sites). (I am making this assumption not only because of the name, but because of research done on wikifur.com about the websites).

I would agree with you if they were describing the attributes of these sites in graphic gross detail, but they are being polite, inquiring about technical difficulties - not trying to start a discussion on yiff or trying to lure people over to these sites.
There is a reason I am on this site - like you I do not like to view that sort of art and I find it offensive that it's out there, but mentioning its existence is not grounds for such a hackle-raising reply me thinks. I say this because I think there are some folks here who actually work on one of those sites, so it is somewhat relevant to those certain individuals. If they were posting "Why is pornograffiti.com and sluttyanonymouschicks.com down?" I might object because I find porn offensive and it has no relation at all to artspots (assuming those are really porn sites, ha ha...). However because they have not actually written anything specifically offensive, I might reserve my "good righteous judgment" for another day when there is really something more objectionable. It may be disappointing to see that some Artspots members are acquainted with these sites, but people cannot all be expected to live up to your own standard (especially outside of the Artspots realm). Unless they get in your face or start polluting Artspots with distasteful art or links or inappropriate language, I would recommend a more gracious attitude.

Hi there, everyone! Thanks to the help of some very generous folk here on ArtSpots (CaptainQ and Armaina, to be specific), I've decided to kick-start my very own art raffle! Here are the specifics..

TICKETS are $1 each. You can buy as many or as few as you want! My Paypal address is ikewagner[at]gmail.com - If you purchase any tickets, please do include your ArtSpots username in the subject so that I know what name to attach to the tickets. :)

PRIZE - EXAMPLE: http://undyingsong.artspots.com/image/25598/neoscotties-sonata---dragon-flowers
1st place winner will receive a fully inked, custom illustration of their choice (such as the one linked above)! The prize will be mailed out to the winner, of course! I may also include a 2nd and 3rd place prize depending on how this progresses.

This offer will end on December 10th. The winner will also be drawn and announced on the same day!

If anyone has any questions about this, feel free to ask! :) And thank you to anyone who takes interest!

just in a dead hobby sense, c++ in highschool as well as visual basic; didn't take it further. php for the most part but didn't do anything ultimately productive and let it die. took a brief look at .lua given that some game engines are taking advantage of it in the modding scene. Also found that using dirty variables in lua leads to strange results where operations can be performed on other variables to the right of an assignment and stored at the same time as storing an unexpected result to the left. That was strange but hammers home the point to be diligent in variable use.

Color IQ Test! - Adromaw

My classmate saw an artist that worked on the concept art for Assassins Creed mention this little application and passed it around a little earlier this year to me. I got a 4 in class when I tried it out, later at home I achieved a 0 and the next day tried again and got 0 yet again. Someone I showed it to commented, that the trick to this simple test is that the hue shifts directly in a line (obviously) if something is sitting out of place the line should look broken to you (dotted if you have a lot left to change). :3 Just need to take some time

What other sorts of themes, subject matter, and such do you do?
