Hey there, just trying out the forums, I've been browsing Jaxpad and looked at as many artist as I could at their themes and styles so I could see what's out there, and I'm kind of curios to find out how you come about your themes, what made you choose to draw that and your personal motivations, for example " when you started " or " I feel attracted to this theme best ". Love to hear from anyone who’s interested in this topic. I know there are alot of anime furs, tribal furs, goth furs, some caliber furs and others here and there, tell the world about yourself and what you do ( upload a picture too ! ). =3 As for my theme, I do a combination of sci-fi, fantasy and retro all in one, I love modifing vehicle designs, product designs, architecture, clothing, I'm sure alot of you will find that drawing a picture with floating megastructures and marking the date as 1965 in my art weird ;P
Here's a sample of what I do. ( Now lets' hear it from y'all, I hope the picture dose'nt come out too big or what )

I guess my style is kind of casual. I've never been good at drawing backgrounds, so always tried to keep them simple, or avoid them totally! Recently I've been experimenting with backgrounds more though. I really like working with perspectives, and trying to make my picture interesting through weird angles of figures! I tend to use photoshop to colour my pictures, as I'm not very good with the whole traditional side of things :). In the future I want to experiment with different genre's of anthro, although at the moment I'm quite happy with the whole 'social casual' theme :) |

Sash your drawings improved alot since you first started, especially when you got that new tablet it's a few notches better now! You'll do more soon when your holidays come :3 Wanna get to doing up somemore deatailed backgrouds and objects for yourself.

I have several different themes of art that I love to draw. The one that has been with me all my life has been drawing cars. They have been a real passion of mine since the very earliest days. I enjoy looking at their designs and trying to come up with new and creative ones. Then I got into anthros (through the wonders of Star Fox xD) about 6 or 7 years ago. My style was based upon the rendered artwork from Star Fox Adventures and the only thing I can really say I've carried over from it is how to draw the eyes. Apart from that, my style has sort of evolved a little bit further as I'm now starting to experiment a bit more. I just draw the figures with white backgrounds as for me, the whole fun about drawing anthros is drawing them. I'll upload an example soon |

Superheroes, fashion, historical/ethic costuming, and fantasy for me. XD With a touch of toony-meets-anime for my secondary style. :B Artistically, that's what I've "grown up on".

Fantasy always got me hooked I mean how can you NOT love giant flying Lizards that breathed fire? I was always more interested in the bestial side than humanoid which has lead to many creations of very random critters purely because I love creating a new critter and creating all the history and lore for it :D Early days though my artwork was horribly generic, since only really broke into anatomy more recently it still is a bit. Pokemon is to blame to get me into artwork and the Jungle Pidgeot card is to blame for many wing stylings over the year. Bloody Roar is probably the big one to blame for getting me into anthromorphics because I just adored the concept :) Sonic also has a few thigns to answer for both in writting and in artwork... Lately though my style seems to flit between different oens as I try and stop myself getting too used to something while trying different techniques. Theme wise, random critters (Notalope and the One Eyed Critter on my DA account), general fantasy beasties taken normally or in new ways (Feather Dancer) with some distinct anime influence :S I just like to create things really, I have random mini doodles of ideas and things I have absolutely no idea what they are including scrap writtings. I guess whatever games I'm playing, things I've read or music I have playing also seems to influence it quite a bit or just the classic wtfable thought.

Hehe! I love the creating side of your art! I agree with the whole enjoyment of creating new animals and characters, it helps to keep my mentally and physically occupied :). I HAVE to draw to music which usually influences my drawings. I remember when I started anthro, I spent 2 years trying to find other people who drew like me! After seeing some anthros in a magazine, I became obsessed with the whole idea of half human, half animal concept, although my art is edging more towards the humanoid side, than the animal side. Keep up the good work! :) |

I started as one of those TLK kids...at a very young age: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/spiritwolf77/Misc/simba3rd.jpg
Anyway, TLK style haunted my art for quite some time (and probably still does to some degree) but I started taking influences from other areas. Don Bluth and Disney have always been my primary influences as far as cartoon style/character design goes. I started drawing because I saw An American Tail when I was about 3 or 4. I decided I wanted to do art professionally when I saw TLK. I've also always loved animals, to the point where I collected stuffed animals instead of dolls as a kid and the only Barbie I ever asked for was Zookeeper Barbie (she came with a panda). That hasn't really changed much to this day. Because I need to for the professional world and because I want to grow as an artist, I've started drawing humans now and then, but my main artistic love will always be animals. But as for theme, I dunno, there's such a wide range of stuff that's inspired me over the years. Most of my inspiration comes from books, movies, television, music, and my life. I'm really into sci-fi, so a lot of that bleeds over into my art/stories/etc. Not so much the "aliens and space battles" sci-fi, but more the classic kind of science fiction which is typically about the dangers of playing God, science gone wrong, and analysis of the human condition. I also grew up on the Redwall novels, Star Wars, The Odyssey and epic "coming of age" stories in general so a lot of my art is very character/emotion-focused and takes a lot of influence from the idea of "the hero's journey" (a la Joseph Campbell). Symbolism, social commentary, and self-discovery play a big role in my art. I also love doing art with spiritual/religious themes which I suppose is kind of bizarre since I'm an atheist, but since religion is such a big part of human culture, I guess my interest in those themes goes along with my interest in the human condition. Basically, if you combined Disney's Robin Hood with Star Wars and Dune, you'd get my ideal piece of fiction/art. |

Interesting topic :) As for me ... erm ... I don't really know what to say about my 'style' or theme. I started off with fantasy, at Elfwood. That was a long time ago. O_o I drew mostly dragons. And elves. Woo! Actually I still love fantasy-themed stuff, and mostly deal with strange/mythical creatures and weird settings in my art, I suppose. I draw humans more than I draw furries, but I draw random monsters more than I draw humans. I was totally obsessed with Pokemon when it first came out (who wasn't?). Heh. There's the whole 'monster' theme again :9 I guess my calling is monsters. I like supernatural stuff too; legends, and stuff like that. As for style, I don't really have a set style that I try and stick with. The way I draw is just ... how I draw. I do draw in different ways sometimes, but when I just sit down to sketch it's usually not in a certain style. Lately I've been fiddling with photomanipulation, but I am first and foremost a drawer. Attached is a page of doodles that I think is a good example of what I would draw on any given day. ^___^ (Don't mind the randomness, it's part of it.)

Need to get drawing again meself, got quite a backlog from all this flu and then the computer going down then I'll let any poor viewers suffer it :D Never had a Ps2 so only vaguely aware of some games such as Okami but the original BR, 2 and Primal Fury just had it in for me. Heck my avatar's Shina's BR3 Leopard form :) I do actually get ImagineFX, a UK digital fantasy and sci-fi magazine which is a monthly. They actually had a feature on the pair a few months back and a workshop to give ideas of how they work which was a brillant read. I can blame them for getting more into digital :) I'll be certain to check out the links properly when I have a bit more time. Thankies for linking them.

When I was younger I always wanted to be a vet, and my love for animals has stayed with me since! (But alas I'm not very good at science ;)) I love the redwall books! And I would love to add more theme to my art, because at the moment its kind of theme-less hehe. Thanks for your input! Your art is really nice and I love your TLK drawing ^^ |

Fru said: Interesting topic :) Hehe I have to agree about the Pokemon part! I also love to experiment with media in which to design my characters... but I usually work with either a pencil and paper, or Photoshop and a tablet :). It's great that you do random doodles everyday! I don't do enough of those, and I start out looking at a blank piece of paper thinking "what's going to be my next work of art?" xD.. which usually gives me art block! Nice work you have!! Keep it up :) |

And strangly I discovered the furry fandom while looking for Robin Hood fanart on the web which was 5 years ago :3 We draw what we love I guess, of course if we explore around there's no harm in it too.

Fru said: Interesting topic :) Heya thanks for dropping by! Ahh Pokemon, I was also pulled into the series when it came out but I grew out of it now I suppose, I see that you have a style of your own and it kinda reminds me of the animated movie Corpse Bride, have you seen it ? It's rather intriging, the charecters and object in the drawing you've uploaded has that similar style. n.n

If you want their website it is http://www.imaginefx.com/ where a lot of the tutorials and various bits and pieces tend to pop up on after a few issues or so. The forums are a bit too conceptart.org like for me but might find something useful :)
