I like how it's turning out so far. Hope I can get his jacket and gloves looking right...mmm...or maybe I'll just leave 'em off.

Hmm...alright. Yeah, the "getting into details too soon" is a flaw of mine I've been working on for quite some time. 30-60 second figure drawings really help with that. I should start doing that - even if it's just on my own. Schedule a night for going to a public place just to sketch people. After all - unless they're asleep they're moving around and I'll have to draw quick. Like at Union Station.
Thanks!

Wow, I really love the sketches you did of the dog's fur patterns and I adore the closeup of the nose where you've drawn all the little details...

I know you mentioned this a long time ago,
"I am so frustrated with myself, because I can see they are bad and wrong - too stiff and not natural looking, but despite my extensive experience with figure-drawing classes, it seems as soon as I stop taking the classes, my figures become stiff and forced again."

But I wanted to suggest maybe drawing on bigger paper would help? It might help you to loosen up if you aim to fill the whole page with one figure, and I noticed that with many of your sketches you start putting in details very soon, maybe practicing doing more loose sketches made up of ovals and circles would help? Trying to lay out the whole body before you focus on specific features... :)

And I agree with your sister in that the calf in "New Father" looks very cartoony compared to the adult. I really like the muscles on your minotaurs, they're drawn very well. :)

My sis liked that one too, but she thinks I should make the baby more calf-like. I probably will. Need to define his arm and the rest of him a little better too me thinks.

Everyone likes the businesstaur it seems - so I will probably finish him. The father and the warrior have also been favorited by a couple folks so I might actually return to the warrior - beef up his rump a bit and ink him (beef, heh heh!).

I also have a request for a Highland-type shaggy minotaur as a barber which should be fun.

Some not-so-frequent narcissistic doodles, inspired when I first really discovered Makani, trying to understand my own face (Ha). I meant to go more cartoony, but first I wanted to get a plain simplified version down on paper to start with. Actually, I think I do have some more cartoony versions I moved on to (somewhere around here)...I'll see if I can find them.

Sooo weird to draw yourself in profile...cause you never really see your face from the side.

Well I got my scanner this afternoon, but the lady gave me the wrong power cord. So I'm still using the camera, unfortunately. But since these are not the intended finished pieces, it's not so bad.
Here is a study I did on the flow of cow fur:

I haven't utilized it yet, but if I ink one of these sketches I will. Here I did several more minotaur sketches, continuing my current obsession. I am still trying to figure out which one I want to actually finish though. Maybe you all can help me out. Which one of these is worth finishing off with ink and Painter colors?

"New Father"

"Angry Businesstaur"

"Smoking Minotaur"

And this one I messed with in Photoshop after importing it and I really like how it came out. I might poke at it some more though. Definitely want to finish this one. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Oh, no I have one, but it's packed because I'm moving. I almost mentioned the fact that it's been acting really strangely lately and I'm wondering if it's on its way out. There are times when it simply won't work, but I still seem to be able to get some life out of it eventually. But who knows how long that will last?

I agree with the used method of acquiring expensive items. My scanner came with my in-law's computer, and they had no intention of using it. Mine had gone out years before, so it was a convenient boon. But definitely low-quality...

Anyway, paying $15 for a used $100-200 item, IMO, is definitely worth the gamble.

Well if it's a money issue that's keeping you from getting one, I would recommend Craig's list. It's like...Garagesaletopia. Or maybe thriftopia. You can find almost anything on there and it's all people trying to get rid of stuff in your area. I saw a scanner for $10 the other day. The one I'm getting is $15. It's a bit of a gamble, as it's not new, but I have the person's email and phone # in case it doesn't work. Anyway $15 for a working scanner is pretty darn good. I've paid more than that for a meal.

And cool on Batman, caught it this past weekend and really enjoyed it! I dunno if I was bowled over quite as much as all the critics and word-of-mouth might have you believe, but still was really good! Aside from Batman's growly voice, I dunno why they did that. :P

Though I know the focus was more on the upper body so...

Yeah I was thinking that too, Kooky - about his bottom half seeming small, but his legs flare out just below that - I just didn't include that bit. All the body builders in my reference pics seem to have pretty small waists in comparison to their big chests and arms. Perhaps his leg muscles should show up a little higher. That might help. Well maybe I'll tweak it later. Right now I'm off to see Batman. See ya!
