Hey guys! I'm really glad this group was started!

I'll post some new stuff soon, but I'll start out with a link to my sketches folder on ArtSpots!

http://nevar.artspots.com/gallery/271

EDIT- For future reference, All critique is welcome so long as you play nice! I'll try to comment on things that I like and don't like about sketches that I post to give you an idea of where I might like comments/critique.

Yeah I've been watching your series of sketch posts and love your style - it's been quite a treat! Tell me, do you draw every day or just sporadically?

I try to draw every day- things have been fairly hectic lately and I've been lax about it, but I'm hoping to develop some more discipline about it as the stress from the holidays starts to wear off. As it is, I do usually fill at least 4-5 pages a week, sometimes a little less, but sometimes a lot more. =)

Here's a sketch I scanned about the time I was doing all those sketchbook updates, but never posted since it was a human.

It's a blind contour of my boyfriend. For those that may not be familiar with the technique, the idea is to not look at the paper as you draw, to trace the outline (contour) of your subject with your eye and pen at the same time. It's a great exercise to get you -really looking- at your subject. It's fun and always has unique, interesting results!

Cheetah Sketches, warming up, very quick gestures from photos, probably a minute to a minute and a half each.

And more detailed portraits. Probably about five minutes each, average. Both pages were done with a dark pink PITT Brushpen, which, imo, looks awesome on brown paper.

If you guys like these brushpen studies from photos, I've got several more pages that were done previously that I can scan and put here. I don't like putting a lot of photo reffed stuff in my actual artspots sketch gallery, but this is more for fun, right? XD

Yeah that does have a great look to them! Post them up! Never tried brush pens really, hand not steady enough. Hehe.

Thanks, Kooky! It took me a long time to get used to using brushpens, and I still don't like to use them for actually inking finished work, but they're great for sketching. =)

I just scanned all the ones from this sketchbook, but I won't post them all at once.

First, some octopi. XD

Here's some zebras... if you're paying close attention, you'll notice that an octopus and a zebra were the first subjects of the icons I've been doing lately. I like to do some sketches from photos before drawing a subject. This works like a mini refresher for whatever anatomy the creature might have, and gives me a chance to figure out more complicated markings like on these zebras.

Once I've practiced and it's time to draw the actual icon or badge, I put away the photo reference and usually my sketches, too, and work strictly from my memory of the sketches, which allows me to be more free with it and make decisions based on how I want the design to look, rather than based on the exact right anatomy from the photos. It doesn't always work out that way, but it's a good way to start things. ^___^

One more sketch, something totally different I found that I'd scanned and forgotten about. You guys know the game "CRANIUM"? One of the types of challenges is similar to pictionary, where one person draws something and the other person has to guess what it is; but with a twist- the artist has to keep their eyes shut!

They don't all turn out this cool. But I liked this one enough to share- "Surfing" drawn blindfolded. XD

Cranium!! My friends and I play that often at birthday or holiday gatherings. Hehe. But interesting approach doing the photo reference animal sketches first to get the species down right. I should probably be doing that sort of thing too. :P I never draw RL animals and even with anthros I can draw like.....foxes and maybe a wolf now and then but that's about it. Certainly never zebras or octopi. Hehe.

Here's some studies I did yesterday of Aussie Shepherds, trying to figure out how to draw Niko (http://nevar.artspots.com/image/13867).

I like the one at the bottom; the rest all look kinda weird. XD

Yay Aussie Sketches! Would you mind if I iconified the top left ones? :3

I really love the drawings for Chase.

Sure thing, help yourself. ^__^

Edit- I'll put this'n here, too. Want to try to include art with every comment of mine in this thread. XD

... a rejected sketch- the neckfluff looks odd and I couldn't get it to look right when I tried to change it. Oh well, still a fun sketch. =)

These brushpen sketches are excellent. You know, we were in Intro to Aesthetics together, and I'm really regretting never getting up the nerve to speak to you.

Not that this has anything to do with anything, but I'm curious. Why the name change?

You were in there? You're not the one who did the presentation on furries were you? I 'bout died. XD

No particular reason for the name change, other than I still associate the name nevar with the canine form and I've been quite comfortably feline for over a year now. If that makes sense. =)

Image is a Bornean Clouded Leopard from memory/imagination...
