I don't suppose I'll ever feel really ready to apply, but until I finish this and this, I think these two pics are my best bet for portfolio pieces:

Bunbun

The Desert Gryphon

As for the third, I know I should go with something more sketchy, so I was thinking of one of the following:

Keon the Plumber (c) someone else
Bear with Fish

or my version of Likeshine...though it's way old...Everyone always likes that one

Or should I put one of my sculptures in?
(i.e. Boxcutter's lizardman, my grizzly or the antelope)

Or should I throw in some human figure drawing sketches? I've got plenty of those...and some zoo sketches.

So would these make good application pieces? Is there something else in my gallery that you all think would be a better choice?

Honestly I'd say just use your best judgement and you'll be fine. The bunbun and desert gryphon for sure. I don't see anything wrong with including the rhino in your app, as it shows a bit of your process and is a neat illustration already. The likeshine piece is cool, and your sculptures are really strong, so as long as you photograph them appropriately- keeping background and lighting in mind, those would probably be beneficial, too. Sketches from life couldn't hurt- maybe compile one page of some of your best life sketches and include that as well.

I think you're overcomplicating/overworrying it! =)

Thanks you guys. I guess I am still in Yerf mode. And I know I still have a lot to learn, so it makes me hesitate. But I guess we are all learning...I mean, it's not like we ever stop looking to improve, right? The question is, with my current flaws, am I good enough for Artspots?

I can't speak for reviewers and such because I know I don't always understand their thought process in applications.

That said, I would say you have a very strong chance of getting in hon. The dessert gryph especially shows a great grasp on how things are built. The BunBun piece shows a good eye for detail. Texturing the clothes on that piece more would make it a REALLY strong submission I think. As far as sketches go. Some nice solid figure drawing sketches would be perfect, in my opinion.

I think, just to makes sure you make it in, it is a good idea to wait until you are done with that Otter piece you're currently working on. One thing that you have in your favor is that you are very active in the forums here. That's a big plus from what I've seen.

You shall be added to my watch list. Your sculptures especially are amazing.
